Phase 1: Cape Verde (Year 1 – Advanced Foundations & Professional Integration)

Semester 1 – Core Graduate Foundations

  • Advanced study of theoretical frameworks and global systems in the chosen field
  • Research methodologies, data analysis, and academic writing
  • Digital tools for applied problem-solving and professional communication
  • Leadership, innovation, and cross-cultural collaboration

Residency & Mobility Requirement: After Semester 1, international students begin the Cape Verdean residency permit process. Required for legal stay and visa applications to Portugal, ensuring smooth transition for professional placements, internships, and Year 2 study abroad.

Semester 2 – Applied Knowledge & Pre-Research Training

  • Intermediate specialization modules and industry-focused applications
  • Case studies, simulations, and applied practical training
  • Ethics, governance, and sustainability in global professional contexts
  • Supervised applied project or field assignment
  • Preparation for Year 2 research phase and transition to Portugal

Phase 2: Portugal (Year 2 – Advanced Specialization & Research)

Placement is determined by field of specialization, academic performance, visa clearance, and institutional agreements with partner universities.

Semester 3 – Specialization & Research Preparation

  • Advanced specialization modules in chosen field (business, education, health, or technology)
  • Integration of strategic policy, global best practices, and innovative methods
  • Development of research proposal under faculty supervision
  • Professional engagement through short internships, study visits, or guest lectures
  • Preparation for final thesis/dissertation

Semester 4 – Graduate Research & Finalization

  • Execution of master’s/dissertation or doctoral-level applied research project
  • Advanced electives aligned with professional pathways or career goals
  • Supervised mentorship and collaborative research opportunities
  • Final thesis defense or capstone presentation
