Cape Verde Student Immigration Requirements Checklist
Purpose: This checklist provides all necessary requirements and documents that international students must prepare and submit to Cape Verde immigration authorities before arrival.
1. Passport & Identification
- Valid passport (minimum 6 months beyond intended stay)
- Photocopies of passport (all relevant pages)
2.Visa & Entry Requirements
- Non-ECOWAS students: Student visa application (Visto de Estudante) approved by Cape Verde Embassy/Consulate
- ECOWAS students: Students from ECOWAS member states may enter Cape Verde without a visa for study purposes but must register with immigration upon arrival
- Entry clearance confirmation from immigration
- Visa validity covers the entire study period or evidence of extension eligibility (if required)
4. Admission & Enrollment Confirmation
- Official Letter of Admission from the Luso Anglo German African Institute
- Proof of tuition and accommodation fee payment
4. Proof of Financial Means
- Bank statements covering living expenses
- Sponsor letters or scholarship confirmation (if applicable).
5. Health & Medical Requirements
- Valid health insurance covering the full duration of stay
- Vaccination certificates (e.g., Yellow Fever if required by origin country)
6. Accommodation Details
- Proof of confirmed accommodation Payment (private dormitory or other approved
housing by the Institution) - Exact address of residence for immigration registration
7. Criminal Record / Background Check
- Police clearance certificate from home country (must be done with the connection
of the institution international legal office to avoid counterfeiting)
8. Academic Credentials
- Copies of previous academic transcripts and diplomas to verify eligibility
9. Immigration Notifications & Reporting
- Register with local immigration office upon arrival
- Apply for a residence permit valid for the duration of studies
- Inform immigration authorities upon departure or visa expiration
10. Miscellaneous / Special Requests
- Clarification of work rights during study period (if applicable)
- Visa extension procedures for prolonged courses
- Letters of sponsorship or guarantee for students under 18 years old
Important Note: All documents must be authentic, complete, and submitted in a timely manner. Students are responsible for ensuring compliance with Cape Verde immigration laws.

Academic Year Structure
- 1st Semester: 3 months + 2-week holiday (fee applies)
- 2nd Semester: 3 months + 1-month holiday (fee applies)
- Total academic-year occupancy: 7.5 months
Fee Schedule
- Per Semester: €500 (includes holiday period)
- Per Academic Year: €1,000 (includes both semesters and holiday periods)
Mode of Payment
- Payments are accepted per semester or full academic year only.
- Semester payment: €500 (covers entire semester + holiday period)
- Full academic year payment: €1,000
- Payment must be completed before the start of each semester.
Important Rules and Instructions
- Accommodation fees are mandatory and non-refundable.
- Residents must maintain cleanliness and proper use of utilities.
- Guests are not allowed without prior permission.
- Damages must be compensated by the resident.
- Late payment may result in restricted access.
- Students must respect dormitory rules and maintain peace.

Portugal International Student Immigration Requirements Checklist
(For Cape Verde Nationals and International Students Residing in Cape Verde)
This checklist is provided by the Luso Anglo German African Institute of Vocational Training and Cultural Research (LAGAI) to assist students from Cape Verde and international students holding residence in Cape Verde who wish to continue or finish their education in Portugal. It covers both the visa application process (before arrival) and residence permit requirements (after arrival).
Before Arrival – Student Visa Application (Type D)
- Visa Application Form – completed and signed.
- Valid Passport – at least 3 months beyond stay; minimum 2 blank pages.
- Passport Photos – 2 recent, ICAO compliant.
- Acceptance Letter – from a recognized Portuguese institution (program details, duration, tuition).
- Proof of Financial Means – bank statement, scholarship confirmation, or sponsor letter (~€820/month).
- Proof of Accommodation – rental contract, university dormitory confirmation, or notarized host declaration.
- Health/Travel Insurance – valid in Schengen, minimum coverage €30,000.
- Proof of Tuition Fee Payment – receipt/confirmation (if applicable).
- Flight Reservation/Travel Itinerary – recommended, sometimes requested.
- Visa Fee Payment – approx. €90 (CPLP nationals may benefit from reduced fees).
Additional Requirements – Cape Verde Nationals
- Criminal Record Certificate (Cape Verde) – issued by Direção de Identificação Civil e Criminal, apostilled/legalized if required.
- Medical Certificate – confirming absence of contagious diseases (if requested).
Additional Requirements – International Students Residing in Cape Verde
- Cape Verde Residence Card – proof of legal residence.
- Criminal Record Certificate (Cape Verde) – issued locally.
- Criminal Record Certificate from Country of Origin – apostilled/legalized and translated into Portuguese.
- Medical Certificate – issued in Cape Verde or country of origin (depending on consular request).
After Arrival in Portugal – SEF Residence Permit
- Valid Passport + Student Visa (D Type).
- SEF Appointment Confirmation.
- Proof of Enrollment – certificate of studies/attendance.
- Proof of Accommodation in Portugal – updated contract or residence confirmation.
- Proof of Financial Means – updated bank statement or scholarship.
- Health Insurance Proof – valid in Portugal (Cape Verdeans may access SNS; others may require private insurance).
- Criminal Record Check (Portugal) – requested directly by SEF with authorization.
- Residence Permit Fee Payment – approx. €156 (CPLP nationals may benefit from simplified procedures).
Notes & Special Considerations
Cape Verde nationals benefit from CPLP Mobility Agreements (simplified procedures, reduced fees).
International students in Cape Verde must provide dual criminal records (Cape Verde + country of origin).
Documents not in Portuguese must be translated and apostilled/legalized.
Residence permits must be renewed annually until studies are completed.
Cape Verde students may apply to join Portugal’s Serviço Nacional de Saúde (SNS) once residence permits are granted.
